Entrepreneurship can transform lives and communities, but the starting line is not the same for everyone.
For many in underserved communities, turning an idea into a business takes more than ambition. It takes training, trusted guidance, and a support system built to navigate the real obstacles they face.
At Transcard, we believe access is what makes entrepreneurship possible. That belief led to the launch of AccelUp in 2021, our in-house initiative created to support minority-owned startups and early-stage entrepreneurs.
Though rooted in Chattanooga, TN, AccelUp supports entrepreneurs beyond Tennessee, with participants from places like Aspen, CO to Charlotte, NC.
AccelUp provides entrepreneurs with structured support to help them move from idea to execution. Selected participants receive:
• A $15,000 non-dilutive loan
• A collaborative workspace at Transcard’s headquarters
• One-on-one mentorship and strategic business guidance
• Support in payments, finance, and operations
• Connections to Transcard’s professional network and resources
Through AccelUp, we have built strong partnerships with community programs that share our mission. One example is the Urban Visionary Initiative (UVI), launched by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2022. UVI offers a six-week program to help early-stage entrepreneurs build viable businesses. Each year, Transcard hosts a pitch competition for UVI participants, and the winner is invited to join AccelUp.
We also collaborate with the University of Tennessee’s National Veterans Entrepreneurship Program, where we present the "Veteran Venture Excellence Award" to one veteran per cohort. Each awardee is invited into AccelUp for continued support and mentorship.
"As AccelUp enters its fourth year, we remain focused on building a stronger and more inclusive business community"
said Transcard President, Chris Fuller.
"We’re proud to partner with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and we're inspired by the progress of the entrepreneurs we support, both here in our city and beyond."
